About
How it all began...
This all started when Ellie was diagnosed with Celiac disease.
She was frustrated by the feeling of constantly being left out, so we set out to create food that brings all people together. We created something that can be shared around the table at a big family dinner, after a great hike or between a parent and their child without the worry of someone being excluded because of a dietary restriction.
In its purest form food is the greatest common denominator across the world. Languages, religions, and cultures all create barriers, but food is what unites us.
So why Square Root?
About a year ago, we decided we wanted to redesign Hungry by Nature, not rebrand, just bring in someone who can make the brand look as incredible as the products taste. We hired a designer who suggested we explore the idea of a new name - simply to see if we could come up with something that helps us tell the story of Hungry by Nature in a better way.
We spent over a month with our designer talking about the brand - why we started, what our mission is, what our goals our, the people we serve, the problems we solve - and doing word generation exercises surrounding themes that these discussions brought to light.
After all of this work, we came up with Square Root.
The meaning behind Square Root is simple - if you look at it in math terms, the square root of a number is that number in its most basic form. And that is exactly the way we feel about food.
Our products are all made of real food in its most basic form.
If you look at our ingredients lists, you see nuts, seeds, dried fruit, and spices. Real food. Food you can feel good about putting into your body. Food you can feel great about sharing with your friends and family. Food that loves you back, just as much as you love it.
So what is nutnola?
Well, it's essentially granola without the 'gra'.
By selecting real ingredients and combining them in just the right way, we came up with nutnola! It’s delicious, it’s good for you, and it fits any diet!
